Golf Basic Training – Lesson 1 : Golf Lessons at Golf Zone

Time to get to grips with the basic principles of the wonderful game of golf.

A shot that is not struck correctly will have one of two causes.

1. The clubface is open at impact.
2. The clubface is closed at impact.

We shall look at each of these in turn to appreciate why these two simple factors affect our game.

Clubface Open At Impact

An open clubface leads to a swing that goes across our target line, coming from outside the line to the inside. As a result this sees the clubhead meeting the golf ball at too steep an angle. Result – mishit or misdirected shot.

Clubface Closed At Impact

A closed clubface will generate a swing that comes from inside the target line and moves across it, finishing up outside it. A shallow approach is created which can often see the ball hit thin.

Clubface Square At Impact

If the clubface is square then it is possible to strike the ball correctly. A clubhead that follows the target line will hit the ball square, resulting in a well struck shot that flies towards the target.
