PowerPlay Golf – New Game Launched at Celtic Manor
26 April 2011:
PowerPlay Golf has been launched at Celtic Manor, the event being attended by Ryder Cup winning captain Colin Montgomerie.
PowerPlay Golf is played over 9 holes, with an extra flag on each hole which can be used to score double points. The game involves 12 players and is expected to be completed within 3 hours, making it more attractive to some who feel a round of golf takes too long. Each golfer is allowed a limited number of attempts at the second PowerPlay flag so the decision-making aspect and taking a gamble should prove fascinating.
Peter McEvoy has said that PowerPlay Golf is hoping to replicate the success of Twenty 20 Cricket, making the sport more exciting for spectators, working well for television and bringing more people to the sport.
The inaugural PowerPlay event takes place on May 30 at Celtic Manor, with players already confirmed including Paul Casey, John Daly, Graeme McDowell, Colin Montgomerie, Gary Player and Ian Poulter.
